Insomnia is not only annoying but it can also cause many different issues during the day. Insomnia can cause you to fall asleep at work or while driving because of your lack of sleep which can cause you to lose your job or even worse yet, can cause you to get into a car accident. It is hard to do daily functions when you have not had enough sleep to make your body work and to function at its highest potential to do all the things you need to do each day.

Medical Causes of Insomnia

There are several medical causes of insomnia. Some of these include depression, anxiety, chronic stress, along with pain or discomfort at night. Other causes include environmental causes such as noise, lighting and extreme cold or hot temperatures.

There are many causes both medical and environmental that can cause insomnia in women. For many women you are playing a juggling act with a family, a home and a full-time career. This results in life coming first with sleep coming in anywhere you can fit it into your busy day, which for many women isn’t often enough. Then mix in biology such as a woman’s menstrual cycle or pregnancy and insomnia becomes even more prominent in her life. A woman needs to find time to not only relax after a hard day but also find enough time to get the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep each night for her body to function properly all day long.

Causes of Insomnia in Elderly

There are also several different causes of insomnia in the elderly. Many medical issues can not only cause mental stress but also stress on the body. Mental stress can cause countless hours of laying awake at night worrying about the issues you or your partner is having. Medical issues can cause pain and discomfort. Along with medical issues comes medication and many medications have side effects that will cause insomnia.
